The main aim of the D&O policy is to cover senior natural persons who manage and set a company's strategy when such persons face claims resulting from the performance of their functions or duties. In other words, the D&O policy covers management mistakes of a company's directors and officers.
Adding a professional services exclusion is common in D&O insurance policies for financial institutions such as banks, fund managers, and insurance companies. Typically, this exclusion is drafted using the term “arising out of.”
I have worked as a Director and Offices (D&O) Insurance underwriter for over a decade, and one aspect of the role that has surprised me the most is the limited formal training that D&O underwriters receive throughout their careers.
